Blue Color Family by Dolly Edwards
There are four blue colors. Two are pigmented and two are dilute.
The first is Blue which can vary in shades from lighter to darker. The genetic make up of this color is AsAs BBdd, AsAyBBdd, AsAsBbdd, or AsAyBbdd. This is a pigmented color and blue dogs have the blue pigmented tongue as does a red or black dog.
The second is Lilac, which is the dilute blue. The genetic make up of this color is AsAsbbdd
or AsAybbdd. These dogs have lavender tongues and no black pigment of any kind. This color is blue with addition of chocolate and gives a purple appearance. The third color in the blue family is Isabella. The genetic make up of this color is AyAyBBdd or AyAyBbdd. This color is blue with addition of red and gives a dusty rose appearance.
These dogs have a blue mask and blue pigmented tongues.
The fourth color in the blue family is Isabella Dilute. The genetic make up of this color is AyAybbdd. The coat color is the same as an Isabella but there is no blue mask and the tongue is lavender.
